On July 6, 2019, a meeting was held at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II with participants of the seminar “Genocide of Roma in Ukraine: Memory of the Second and Third Generation of Victims,” organized by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies in collaboration with the German organization “Bildungswerk für Friedensarbeit.” The event took place as part of the project “Ignored Genocide: The Fate of Roma in the German-Occupied Zone of Ukraine during World War II.”
Together with lecturers Tetiana Storozhko and Mykhailo Tiagly, the attendees discussed issues of national memory policy, approaches to addressing the topic of genocide, and its representation in the public sphere. Among the guests were representatives of the second and third generations of Roma families who had experienced the genocide. Museum researchers Hanna Rafalska and Oleksandr Ocheretiannyi familiarized them with the exhibitions dedicated to the events of World War II and the ongoing war in Eastern Ukraine.
